Software training

While visiting Sandia a few weeks ago, I realized that Sandia (and likely many other large organizations) provide training to their staff in software development that builds on what Software Carpentry teaches - Perhaps a valuable activity for URSSI would be to provide some coordination to these efforts by cataloging them and forming a community of their instigators, maybe as an advanced software development lesson group within the Carpentries, or outside. This could have some overlap with work done by XSEDE, but would focus more on software development and less on HPC-specific libraries and tools.

Another potential URSSI topic related to training is to provide training to groups in how to do peer reviews - the idea here is that URSSI will not be able to peer-review lots of people’s code. but maybe it can help establish local groups that would be able to do this for each other.
