Notes from a discussion at AGU:
- A good (best?) way to make a large impact is via training, which can be somewhat direct but mostly indirect (working with other organizations such as the Carpentries, working via a “train the trainers” model)
- Most other paths of impact will likely be indirect, due to the size of the community to be impacted
- Where direct work happens, it might make sense to think of a pipeline model, where URSSI focuses on one (disciplinary) community each year, and has limited follow-up with that community in succeeding years. For example, we might work with geosciences via AGU and other organizations/venues one year, and the astronomy via AAS/etc. the next year.
